Background

Tobias Eismann is a German serial entrepreneur best known as the founder and long-time CEO of the metacrew group, an Osnabrück- and Berlin-based holding that operated a portfolio of B2B2C platforms and subscription-commerce brands in the food and beauty (FMCG) sectors. He founded his first internet startup in the mid-1990s, later sold it, and spent roughly three years at arvato/Bertelsmann before returning to entrepreneurship. An earlier venture of his, heaven7media GmbH, was a predecessor to the marketing/e-commerce group that became metacrew.

Under Eismann, metacrew grew into a group of around seven companies with roughly 200 employees across four German locations, running platforms that connected hundreds of thousands of consumers with manufacturers seeking product feedback. Its consumer brands included the beauty subscription Pink Box, gourmet-food boxes (Gourmetbox), and Foodist, which metacrew acquired in 2019. The group reported over €40 million in revenue for 2022 (roughly split between food and beauty, and between B2B and B2C), with an operating result of about €3.0 million, and in July 2023 it issued its first public corporate bond (ISIN DE000A351S01, 9.00% coupon, up to €4 million, five-year term) via the crowdfunding platform Seedmatch.

In 2024 the metacrew group entered insolvency proceedings. On 1 May 2024 the Intan Group took over metacrew's subscription business for beauty and food boxes, with 56 employees transferring to preserve jobs in Osnabrück and Berlin; Eismann exited the company in the course of the insolvency. Alongside his operating roles he has been an active early-stage angel investor, making personal angel investments and investing through JAC ventures GmbH, his Osnabrück-based investment vehicle (which also holds interests in entities such as findoo Deutschland GmbH and JAC Real Estate GmbH).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests primarily at seed / early stage, both as a personal angel and via JAC ventures GmbH.
  • Strong affinity for consumer, FMCG, subscription-commerce, and digital-platform models — the same territory he built and scaled at metacrew (food and beauty, B2B2C marketplaces connecting brands and consumers).
  • As an operator-investor, he frames metacrew's approach as going "with the customer to implement business models together" and acting as "game changers" using disruptive technologies — a hands-on, partnership-oriented mindset he brings to founders.
  • More recently associated with deep tech / AI themes at the group level, signaling openness to technology-driven consumer and platform plays.
  • (Check size not publicly disclosed; individual deals appear to be small angel tickets alongside other individual investors and micro-VCs.)

Notable Investments

  • Lambus — Berlin-based travel-planning app; JAC ventures participated in a ~$0.86M seed round (Seed VC-II) on 2 June 2022, alongside Ennea, NBank Capital, Third Level Ventures, and several angels.
  • Swan Beauty — beauty startup; angel investment recorded 13 October 2022.
  • Foodist (acquired, not an angel deal) — gourmet-food e-commerce brand bought by metacrew group in 2019 and integrated into its food portfolio.
