Background
Todd Brock is a Partner and Investment Committee member at Brightstar Capital Partners, a New York–based private equity firm that partners with closely-held and family-owned middle-market companies. He has been associated with the firm since its inception, working alongside founder and CEO Andrew Weinberg — a relationship that dates back to 2006, when Brock worked with Weinberg during Weinberg's time at Lindsay Goldberg. Brightstar today manages more than $5 billion in assets and focuses on business services, industrial services, consumer services, and government services & technology.
Brock's foundation is as an operator rather than a career financier. He joined the Brock Group in 1986 and served as its Chief Operating Officer, and under his and his brother's leadership the company grew into a leading multi-craft industrial maintenance service provider. The Brock Group was sold to a private equity investor in 2006, after which Brock continued as Chairman of the Board from 2006 to 2014. He later founded Brock Capital Group (BCG) and has been described in filings as Chairman & CEO of Partner Industrial, L.P., the industrial-services platform connected to that lineage.
Over his career Brock has taken board seats across a series of industrial and environmental-services businesses tied to his and Brightstar's/Lindsay Goldberg's portfolios, including PSC, LLC (industrial cleaning and hazardous-waste management), Remedial Construction Services (RECON, environmental remediation and geotechnical construction), and Sunny Sky Products (dispensed beverages). He currently serves as Board Chair of Texas Water Supply Company, a Brightstar portfolio company.
Brock is a graduate of Texas A&M University and an active supporter of the Business Honors Program at the Mays Business School. He is a member of Houston's Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) and is heavily involved in Christian educational philanthropy through the Todd Brock Family Foundation, having founded Legacy Christian Academy and served on boards including Yellowstone Academy, Student Leadership University, For All Mankind, and Dare 2 Share.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through Brightstar's control-buyout model in established middle-market companies, not seed or early-stage startups
- Targets closely-held and family-owned businesses — the "partnering with founders/families" thesis is central to Brightstar's identity and to Brock's own speaking topic ("Partnering with Private Equity: A real world case study")
- Brings deep operator credibility in industrial and maintenance services, having built and scaled the Brock Group himself; his sourcing and diligence lean on real-world operating experience
- Brightstar's value-creation playbook emphasizes commercial growth and market expansion, operational improvement, leadership/organizational capability, strategic add-on acquisitions and integration, and application of systems, data, and AI
- Sector emphasis aligns with his background: industrial services, business services, consumer services, and government services & technology
