Background
Tom Buehlmann has spent more than two decades in senior general-management, sales, and marketing roles across technology-led, consumer-facing marketing-services and CRM businesses. He began his career at Procter & Gamble, spending roughly seven years in marketing, advertising, and strategic-planning positions across Europe and the United States, before serving about six years at the Swiss confectionery group Lindt & Sprüngli as Managing Director for the United Kingdom. He subsequently held CEO and senior-management roles at EYC (a global loyalty, CRM and analytics provider) and at Catalina Marketing (a provider of targeted point-of-sale couponing), and served as Group/Executive Chairman of the Lumata Group, a global digital customer-engagement, analytics and loyalty company (later sold to Evolving Systems). He holds an MA from the University of Cambridge.
Buehlmann is best known most recently as Chief Executive Officer of Cint, the Stockholm-based digital insights-gathering and market-research technology platform. Over more than five years as CEO he grew the company from an emerging private business through its IPO to a publicly listed growth story, driving consistent sales and profitability growth both organically and through acquisitions. Under his leadership Cint completed the integrations of P2Sample and, most significantly, the strategic acquisition of Lucid in 2021, materially expanding its global position in the market-research industry.
Buehlmann stepped down as CEO of Cint in spring 2023; the board appointed Giles Palmer as his successor, effective 1 April 2023. Alongside his operating career, he has been an active early-stage investor and advisor. He joined DN Capital as a Venture Partner focused on deal origination — evaluating and managing new and existing investments in the e-commerce, data, and retail-technology sectors — and is now listed as an Industry Advisor to the firm.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests personal capital as an angel, typically in early-stage (seed) technology companies, generally in exchange for equity.
- Sector emphasis reflects his operating background: e-commerce, retail technology, data, SaaS, and CRM / loyalty / marketing-services software.
- Brings hands-on operator value — he leverages 20+ years in global sales, marketing, and general management, and has taken active governance roles (board seats / chairmanships) rather than passive checks.
- At DN Capital his mandate centered on originating and evaluating investments in e-commerce, data, and retail-technology businesses, a useful signal of the deal types he gravitates toward.
Notable Investments
- LoyaltyLion — SaaS loyalty and engagement platform for e-commerce retailers; angel investment (latest recorded April 2014), alongside other notable backers including PAYBACK co-founder Jan Boluminski and QXL founder Tim Jackson.
- Meister (MeisterLabs Software) — maker of MindMeister and MeisterTask productivity software; Buehlmann has held a board seat and served as Chairman.
- DN Capital portfolio (advisory capacity) — as Venture Partner / Industry Advisor he has helped originate and evaluate deals in e-commerce, data, and retail technology, though these are firm investments rather than personal angel checks.
