Travis Whitfill

Travis Whitfill is a scientist-investor who spent roughly nine years as a Partner at Bios Partners, a Fort Worth/Dallas-based life-sciences venture capital firm with more than $120M under management that backs early-stage and growth-stage biopharmaceutical and medical-device companies. In that role he led diligence and sat on the boards of multiple portfolio companies. He was also a Senior Analyst at the affiliated Bios Research, providing biotech market research (including short recommendations) to hedge funds. He was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 in Healthcare in 2018.

His training is scientific rather than purely financial. He received research training in molecular biology and biochemistry at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Duke University, and Yale University. He holds a BS from Dallas Baptist University (biology/mathematics), an MPH from the Yale School of Public Health (molecular/chronic-disease epidemiology), and an MPhil from University College London, where he also pursued a PhD in innovation and economics/public policy. He has held a faculty appointment at Yale University (Associate Research Scientist / Adjunct in the Departments of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine), has co-authored 50+ peer-reviewed publications, and holds close to a dozen patents.

Whitfill is also an operator and serial co-founder, not only a check-writer. He co-founded Azitra Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing precision-dermatology therapies using engineered skin bacteria, and has been involved since 2014 (board director, then Executive Director of Advanced Technology). In July 2023 he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Azitra, which is publicly traded (NYSE American: AZTR). His current day-to-day role is centered on Azitra, while his investing identity remains tied to Bios Partners.
