Background

Virginie Morgon is one of Europe's most prominent private-equity executives. She holds a degree from Sciences Po Paris (Institut d'Études Politiques, Economics and Finance) and a Master's in Economics and Management (MIEM) from Bocconi University in Milan. She began her career in finance at Lazard in 1991, working as an investment banker in New York and London before becoming, in early 2001, the youngest managing senior partner at Lazard Frères et Cie in Paris. In 2006 she was named Head of Lazard's European Food, Retail and Consumer Goods practice. Over her 16 years at Lazard she advised major French and international groups including Air Liquide, Danone, France Télécom, Publicis, Renault, and Kingfisher/Castorama.

Morgon joined the executive board of Eurazeo — one of France's largest listed investment firms — in 2008. She became Chief Investment Officer in 2012, Deputy CEO (Directrice Générale déléguée) in 2014, and CEO in 2018, also serving as president of the management board. Over roughly 14 years in senior leadership she transformed Eurazeo from a French holding company into a diversified, multi-strategy international investment firm spanning venture capital through large-cap buyouts, with assets that grew into the tens of billions of euros. She is best known for championing Eurazeo's 2011 investment in Moncler and orchestrating a highly profitable exit later in the decade.

Morgon stepped down from Eurazeo in February 2023 (succeeded as CEO by William Kadouch-Chassaing). In 2024 she launched Ardabelle Capital, her own private-equity firm dedicated to the transition to a sustainable economy, co-founding it with a group of seasoned partners drawn from Paris, Geneva, and New York. She serves as Founding & Managing Partner.

A long-standing advocate for women in leadership, Morgon is a founding member of the Women's Forum for Economy & Society and has co-chaired the Paris Committee of Human Rights Watch. She has repeatedly appeared on Fortune's Most Powerful Women International ranking and holds two of France's highest civilian honors — Knight of the Legion of Honor and Knight of the National Order of Merit.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Climate-driven mid-market buyouts. Ardabelle targets what it calls the "missing middle" of climate private equity — profitable mid-market companies where a control investment plus operational transformation can drive both financial and sustainability returns.
  • Scope 3 / value-chain lens. The firm's stated focus is "the shift towards sustainability within the value chain of consumer corporations," treating the Scope 3 emissions gap as "the largest investment opportunity in decades." It applies a "horizontal value chain investment approach" and a proprietary "sustainability transformation plan" to portfolio companies.
  • Priority themes: resource preservation, material circularity, value-chain digitization, and sustainable logistics — spanning sustainable ingredients, eco-friendly packaging, waste and recycling, and water efficiency.
  • Fund scale: Ardabelle's inaugural fund is targeting roughly €500 million, having reached a first close of about €250 million (reported November 2025); the firm aims to hit its full target in 2026. Individual check sizes have not been publicly disclosed but are consistent with mid-market control deals.
  • Geography: European and North American mid-market companies, run from offices/partners in Paris, Geneva, and New York.

Notable Investments

  • Plymag — Ardabelle's debut deal (announced/closed late 2025). Majority stake in a Spanish producer of seaweed-based biostimulants and crop-nutrition products, acquired alongside minority shareholders Sofiprotéol (Avril group) and Capagro. Plymag sells in 30+ countries with subsidiaries in Portugal, Chile, Colombia, and Peru; the deal anchors Ardabelle's sustainable agri-food value-chain strategy.
  • Moncler — Signature deal: Eurazeo invested in the Italian luxury outerwear brand in 2011 and exited its stake over 2018–2019, reportedly generating roughly €1.4 billion in proceeds and a multiple of several times invested capital.
  • Farfetch — Early venture-stage investment in the luxury-fashion e-commerce platform, connected into Eurazeo's broader luxury network.
  • Vestiaire Collective — Investment in the resale/pre-owned luxury marketplace.
  • Desigual — Stake in the Spanish fashion brand, part of Eurazeo's consumer/fashion portfolio.
