Background

Vladimir Lasocki is a Managing Director at The Carlyle Group and serves as Partner and Co-Head of the Carlyle Europe Technology Partners (CETP) investment advisory team, which he leads alongside Michael Wand. He is based in London and joined Carlyle in 2000, making him one of the longest-tenured leaders of the firm's European technology franchise.

Before Carlyle, Lasocki was an Associate in Deutsche Bank's principal investments group from 1998 to 2000, where he worked on technology deals including Cocom in Denmark (acquired by Cisco), Orchestream in the UK (LSE: OCH), and Xacct Technologies in Israel (acquired by Amdocs). He began his career in corporate finance at Banque Paribas in London and Prague.

He holds a degree in business administration with a major in finance from EM Lyon and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Solvay Business School), and an M.A. in European economic studies from the College of Europe in Bruges.

Over more than two decades at Carlyle, Lasocki has advised on and sat on the boards of numerous technology investments. He has been a director of Transics International (Euronext: TRAN) and Wall Street Institute Education, and has represented Carlyle on the boards of Egencia (acquired by Expedia), Orthogon Systems (acquired by Motorola), Financière CAMECA (acquired by Ametek), Solsoft (acquired by Exaprotect), and PacketLight Networks (now part of the RAD Group).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Leads CETP, which invests in lower- and mid-market European technology companies, generally acquiring majority stakes with an average investment horizon of about five years.
  • Stated fund strategy (with co-head Michael Wand) targets cybersecurity, digital transformation and cleantech, plus software applications for financial services, healthcare and infrastructure, aiming to exploit "pockets of life" in the economy.
  • CETP typically builds a portfolio of roughly 20–30 companies per fund.
  • Track record skews toward operationally improving established tech businesses and exiting via strategic acquisition or IPO (e.g., sales to Cisco, Motorola, Expedia, Ametek, Amdocs).
  • Separately, he has made at least one personal angel/seed investment — Homa Games (mobile gaming, France, 2021) — which is why he surfaces in angel-investor databases.
