Background

Wei Si is a Managing Director at Hudson Sustainable Group (formerly Hudson Clean Energy Partners / Hudson Sustainable Investments), a New York–based investment firm focused on the energy transition. At Hudson she led energy investment strategy, deal sourcing and execution with an emphasis on the U.S. and Asia, advancing through the firm from Vice President to Principal to Managing Director. Hudson's team has structured more than $13 billion in clean-energy and infrastructure transactions since 2007, and the firm is known for taking complex policy and project structures and turning them into financeable, investable platforms.

Before Hudson, Si spent several years at GE Energy Financial Services, the energy investment arm of GE Capital. There she executed roughly 1 GW of greenfield renewable investments in the U.S., helped set up a $750 million Japan solar fund in 2017, supported approximately 2 GW of gas power plant development and roughly 1 GW of gas project financing, and managed an approximately $500 million portfolio of U.S. natural-resource companies. Earlier in her career she worked at Weatherford in China as a business development manager and at Schlumberger in Malaysia as a field engineer — a hands-on energy-sector foundation that informs her infrastructure and project-finance lens.

Si holds an engineering degree from Tsinghua University in Beijing and an MBA from Rice University in Houston. Through Rice she has stayed close to the climate-innovation ecosystem, serving with the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship.

More recently, Si has moved toward early-stage building and investing. Her LinkedIn presents her current focus as MicroVPP™ by MicroGrid — a venture aimed at "turning hardware into grid assets" (virtual-power-plant / distributed-energy infrastructure) — and references a stint around Amazon's AGI Lab and corporate-development work. In parallel she serves as an investment-committee member and advisor at Azolla Ventures and Third Derivative, two of the better-known early-stage climate-tech investment platforms.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Climate and energy transition first. Her career and current roles center entirely on decarbonization — renewable power, storage, energy efficiency, and grid infrastructure — both at the project/platform level (Hudson) and at the early-stage company level (Azolla Ventures, Third Derivative).
  • From hardware to "grid assets." Her current MicroVPP/MicroGrid focus reflects a thesis on aggregating distributed hardware (solar, batteries, devices) into dispatchable, monetizable grid resources — i.e., virtual power plants.
  • Early-stage climate via Azolla Ventures. As an IC member and advisor at Azolla, she helps steer catalytic capital toward scalable, emissions-impactful climate solutions at the seed/early stage — Azolla explicitly backs early-stage technology companies fighting climate change.
  • Financeable structure matters. Hudson's stated approach is to help "founders and partners design financeable structures, secure capital, and scale projects" — Si's value-add is structuring and project finance, not just capital, given her GE EFS and infrastructure background.
  • U.S. + Asia reach. Her deal experience spans U.S. renewables and Asian solar (e.g., the Japan solar fund and Hudson's Sky Solar work), so cross-border energy plays fit her wheelhouse.

Notable Investments

  • Sky Solar Holdings — Hudson Sustainable Investments pursued and reached a settlement/take-private process with this Asia-focused solar developer (2019–2021); Si publicly flagged the Hudson–Sky Solar settlement on LinkedIn.
  • ~1 GW U.S. greenfield renewables — portfolio of U.S. renewable-energy projects executed during her time at GE Energy Financial Services.
  • $750M Japan solar fund (2017) — helped establish this dedicated Japan solar vehicle at GE EFS.
  • ~2 GW gas power development / ~1 GW gas project financing — conventional-power infrastructure work at GE EFS (transition-era assets).
  • Azolla Ventures portfolio (advisory/IC role) — contributes to investment decisions on Azolla's early-stage climate-tech portfolio rather than holding personal stakes.
