Wienke Bodewes

Wienke Bodewes (born ~1952/53; reported as 65 in 2018) is a Dutch civil engineer and real estate executive who spent his career in urban renewal, housing, and area development. He studied Civil Engineering at TU Delft and began his career in the early years of urban renewal ("stadsvernieuwing") in Rotterdam, where he was involved in developing many of the redevelopment instruments now considered standard practice. In 1995 he built up the project-development department at Woningbedrijf Amsterdam, the housing corporation that later became Ymere, where he served for roughly twelve years.

In 2007 Bodewes joined Amvest — a residential real estate investment manager and developer founded in 1997 as a joint venture and now owned by pension fund PFZW — as General Director/CEO. Over his roughly ten-year tenure he grew Amvest into a leading Dutch residential player. As director he was co-responsible for several landmark area developments, including Almere DUIN, Strijp R in Eindhoven, the redevelopment of the former Shell complex at Overhoeks in Amsterdam, and the Cruquius district in Amsterdam. Amvest today manages some 22,000 homes for roughly 55,000 tenants and has a substantial development pipeline.

On 5 March 2018 Amvest announced Bodewes would step down; he called it "a natural moment to hand over the leadership of this wonderful company to a new generation." Heleen Aarts, then Director of Area Development, succeeded him as CEO in autumn 2018 (1 October 2018), and Bodewes stayed on as an adviser through the end of 2018. That year he also received the ULI Netherlands Award 2018 in recognition of his contribution to Dutch area development.

Since leaving Amvest, Bodewes has worked as an independent adviser and supervisory-board professional through his own vehicle, Bodewes & Bodewes (established 2018). He joined the Supervisory Board (Raad van Commissarissen) of construction/development group Hurks on 1 January 2019, and became chairman of the Supervisory Board of housing corporation Pré Wonen from 1 February 2019. More recently he has served as a coach/adviser on the area-development and housing-construction programme for the public body of Bonaire (Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire, OLB). He has also chaired Holland Property Plaza.

• Not a venture/seed investor. Bodewes's "investing" is in residential real estate assets and development, not equity in early-stage companies. Treat the stub's seed/angel framing as inaccurate.
• Core focus during his career: long-term residential investment plus development — rental and for-sale homes, senior/care housing, and complete neighbourhoods, on behalf of institutional capital (Amvest is backed by pension fund PFZW).
• Area development ("gebiedsontwikkeling"): he is a recognised advocate of large-scale, mixed, high-quality neighbourhood transformation (e.g., Almere DUIN, Overhoeks, Strijp R, Cruquius).
• Sustainability and social-plus-market housing: his expertise spans both the social (corporation) and private/commercial residential sectors.
• What made Amvest "say yes": projects that could be developed and held long-term as functioning neighbourhoods rather than quick trades — a patient, investment-manager mindset.
