Background
Will Dull is a Vice President at Ridgemont Equity Partners, a Charlotte, North Carolina–based middle-market private equity firm. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration and a B.A. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and remains a devoted Tar Heels sports fan and North Carolina native. Before joining Ridgemont, he worked at the investment bank Harris Williams & Co., where he advised middle-market companies on M&A and financing; earlier career experience has also been associated with Raymond James Financial and Insight Sourcing Group.
At Ridgemont, Dull is aligned to the firm's Business & Technology Services and Industrial Growth investment teams. He was promoted to Vice President in January 2022, alongside colleague Kyle Greer, as part of a round of firm-wide promotions and new hires announced by Ridgemont. In that role he supports deal sourcing, execution, and portfolio-company value creation across the firm's control and lead-minority investments.
Ridgemont itself traces its roots to 1993 (originally the private equity arm of Bank of America / Banc of America Capital Investors) and spun out as an independent firm in 2010. The firm has invested more than $8B across 170+ companies and manages $10B+ in assets, focusing on growth-oriented buyouts and recapitalizations in the middle market, with a heavy emphasis on buy-and-build strategies (180+ add-on acquisitions over the prior decade).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as a control (majority) owner or lead minority investor in established, profitable middle-market companies — this is private equity, not venture/seed.
- Check size / scale: targets enterprise values of $100mm to $1B+, with equity commitments up to ~$500mm per platform.
- Sector focus (Dull's teams): Business & Technology Services and Industrial Growth; the firm also invests in Healthcare.
- Deal types: growth equity for organic and acquisition-led expansion, recapitalizations, corporate divestitures, and full or partial liquidity transactions for private-company owners.
- What makes them say yes: experienced management teams, proven business models, and "complete alignment in vision and mutual trust" — Ridgemont explicitly backs strong operators and pursues aggressive add-on acquisition ("buy-and-build") programs.
