Control buyouts and platform investments in the lower middle market (not seed/early-stage)

Established, profitable businesses with revenue of ~$5–30M and EBITDA of ~$1.5–3M (flexible for compelling growth stories); 2–3+ years of positive revenue/EBITDA trends preferred; control (alone or with a compatible co-investor) preferred; management team expected to remain in place

Background

Will Lindenmayer is the founder and a Managing Partner of Arch Equity Partners, a private equity firm he established in St. Louis, Missouri in 2008. He brings more than twenty-five years of experience spanning banking, financial consulting, structured finance, operations management, and private equity. He holds a B.S. from Cornell University and an M.B.A., and earlier in his career worked in investment and commercial banking in Washington, D.C. and Chicago.

Prior to founding Arch, Lindenmayer started White Avenue Partners, a boutique merchant banking firm focused on turnaround efforts, operations and strategic consulting, and M&A advisory. That operationally oriented, hands-on background is reflected in AEP's strategy, which centers on buying established lower-middle-market companies and improving them through professional management practices and active partnership with management teams.

At Arch, Lindenmayer leads a firm that has invested in roughly nine platform companies since 2008, completed multiple add-on acquisitions, and pursued greenfield initiatives, including operations outside the United States. He works alongside Managing Partner John Mandelker, a longtime operating executive (former CEO of Cabka North America and EVP at Tubular Steel), pairing Lindenmayer's finance and deal background with deep operational leadership across the portfolio.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in lower-middle-market platform companies, principally in consumer, industrial, distribution, and services industries — *not* venture or seed.
  • Target size: revenue of $5–30M and EBITDA of $1.5–3M, with flexibility for businesses showing above-average EBITDA margins or a compelling growth story.
  • Sector quality screens: manufacturing of niche/customized products (gross margins >25%), distribution with defensible positions (gross margins >20%), and business services with unique offerings and high switching costs.
  • Control-oriented and patient: prefers control positions (alone or with a compatible co-investor), keeps management in place as significant equity partners, and holds investments for the long term to build durable value.
  • Explicit exclusions: the firm states it does not invest in real estate, natural-resource companies, highly regulated businesses (banks, insurance, utilities), retail, restaurant chains, early-stage companies, or technology/telecom/internet companies — a useful filter for founders deciding whether to reach out.

Notable Investments

  • Chandler Industries — Multi-site contract manufacturer specializing in precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, and complex assembly for aerospace, defense, and medical end-markets (acquired April 2011; platform company).
  • Kenroy Home — Home design, furnishings, and lighting company (chandeliers, lamps, fountains, mirrors, outdoor lighting) with roughly a 60-year history (current portfolio company).
  • AccuTherm Inc. — Manufacturer of industrial and commercial electric heating systems and controls (exited).
  • Cutex Brands — Maker of Cutex, the leading U.S. nail-polish remover brand (established 1911) (exited).
  • GrassWorx, LLC — Proprietary manufacturer of plastic products, including AstroTurf®-branded doormats (exited).
  • Northern Technologies (NTI) — Geotechnical engineering and environmental consulting firm based in Fargo, North Dakota (acquired early 2016; exited March 2022).
