Background
Willi Hemetsberger is an Austrian investment-banking veteran with more than 35 years in the financial industry. He began his career in 1988 as a fixed-income fund manager at Spar Invest KAG, then moved to Citigroup in London (1994–1998), where he was Head of Structured Derivatives Europe and Equity Derivatives Emerging Markets. From 1998 to 2001 he served as CEO of Creditanstalt Investmentbank (CAIB).
From 2001 to 2008 he was a Board Member of Bank Austria responsible for Markets & Investment Banking, and from 2005 to 2008 he sat on the UniCredit Group Executive Committee as Global Head of Markets, overseeing a business generating roughly €2.6bn in revenues. He has also advised the Austrian Ministry of Finance on public investments and debt management.
In 2008 Hemetsberger founded Ithuba Capital AG, an independent, FMA-licensed investment-management and advisory firm headquartered in Vienna with an additional office in Munich. The firm employs around 35 professionals and has advised on client assets in excess of €150bn since inception, working across asset management, portfolio servicing and corporate-finance advisory. In 2017 he launched Ithuba FinMill, the group's early-stage B2B FinTech investor and company builder, where he serves as Chairman.
Hemetsberger holds a Master's in Economics from the University of Vienna and postgraduate degrees in Economics from Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore) and its Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Bologna. He also serves on an advisory board of Johns Hopkins University.
