Background
William Raul is a private equity investment professional based in New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Washington and Lee University in 2015, and holds a FINRA Series 63 license. Earlier in his career he interned at SIFMA (2013) and as a credit research analyst at Sterne Agee (summer 2014).
He began his full-time career as an Analyst in the Industrials Group at Wells Fargo Securities from June 2015 to June 2018. In September 2018 he joined GoldPoint Partners LLC as a Vice President, where he worked on the firm's private equity program — equity co-investments, mezzanine (private credit) investments, and limited partnership commitments to alternative investment funds. (The stub's "Associate" title is out of date; public records list him at the Vice President level at GoldPoint and, subsequently, Director.)
GoldPoint Partners is the private equity affiliate of New York Life Investments (originally New York Life Capital Partners, renamed GoldPoint in 2012). In 2022 New York Life combined GoldPoint Partners, Madison Capital Funding, and PA Capital into a single, rebranded middle-market alternatives boutique, Apogem Capital, which manages roughly $40+ billion in assets. Raul moved into a Director role at Apogem in April 2022 as part of that consolidation, continuing to focus on private equity/private markets.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as an institutional LP and co-investor, not as an angel — GoldPoint/Apogem deploys equity co-investments alongside sponsors, mezzanine (private credit) financing, and primary/secondary fund commitments.
- Targets the U.S. middle market; GoldPoint's mezzanine program (running since 1991) has invested ~$3.2 billion across 125+ mezzanine transactions.
- Follows GoldPoint's stated "Core Partner" strategy — building a focused portfolio anchored to top-performing private equity sponsor relationships.
- Capital is managed on behalf of pension funds, financial institutions, high-net-worth investors, and New York Life Insurance Company — so decisions are driven by institutional, risk-adjusted return criteria rather than founder-level thesis bets.
Notable Investments
- Individual deals are not publicly attributed to William Raul; GoldPoint/Apogem invests at the fund and transaction level rather than publishing named startup portfolios.
- GoldPoint Mezzanine Partners funds (e.g., Fund IV) — the firm's flagship middle-market mezzanine/private credit program he participated in as a VP.
- GoldPoint Partners Co-Investment funds (e.g., Co-Investment Fund VI) — equity co-investments made alongside private equity sponsors.
- (No verifiable venture/seed-stage portfolio companies exist for this investor; claims otherwise are not supported by the sources.)
