Background

Yasmine Lacaillade is the Founder and Managing Partner of Sinefine, a venture investment platform launched in 2022 to back women-led venture capital firms. Sinefine describes its mission as providing catalytic capital to the next generation of women-led, market-defining firms and giving limited partners access to women-led VC managers that may otherwise sit below institutional allocators’ minimum fund-size thresholds.

Before founding Sinefine, Lacaillade was Chief Operating Officer at Drive Capital, the Columbus, Ohio-based venture firm launched by former Sequoia partners. Sinefine says she helped build Drive from a single early-stage venture fund into a multi-billion-dollar private equity platform, led strategic operating decisions and investments, managed limited partner relationships, and launched an emerging-manager scout program.

Earlier in her career, Lacaillade spent four years at TPG-Axon Capital, a global multi-strategy hedge fund anchored by TPG, where she led European marketing and investor relations. She also worked at Gruss & Co., a global merger-arbitrage hedge fund, and started her financial career at a single-family office. She graduated with honors from Princeton University in 2005.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Sinefine’s core thesis is that women-led venture firms are undercapitalized relative to performance. The firm states: “Women are an asset class.”
  • Sinefine invests in women-led and women co-led VC firms because it believes women source different deal flow, diligence differently, and can broaden LP exposure to overlooked markets.
  • The platform targets both emerging and established venture managers and aims to help them institutionalize fundraising, investor relations, operations, talent, and narrative.
  • Lacaillade has said Sinefine is “creating a concentrated portfolio of proven, to varying degrees, female-led investors.”
  • Sinefine is sector-agnostic and strategy-flexible, with public materials noting exposure across pre-seed through growth equity rather than a narrow startup category.
  • For GP selection, Lacaillade emphasizes data, differentiated access, institutional ambition, team/culture quality, and the ability to build beyond a one-person fund.

Notable Investments

  • Sinefine fund-of-funds portfolio: Public sources describe Sinefine as investing in women-led emerging and established VC firms, but specific underlying fund investments were not publicly named in the sources reviewed.
  • Drive Capital emerging-manager scout program: At Drive Capital, Lacaillade launched an emerging-manager scout program and built her own investment track record through it; public sources reviewed did not name the individual managers.
  • Drive Capital platform buildout: During her Drive tenure, she helped grow the firm from an early-stage Fund I platform into a multi-billion-dollar venture/private-equity platform; this is an operating and platform-building track record rather than a personally attributed startup-deal list.
