Background

Joseph Boakye-Yiadom is a Ghanaian finance and operations executive who has spent more than a decade as a partner at Oasis Capital Ghana Limited, one of West Africa's established indigenous growth- and venture-capital fund managers. Within the firm he functions as Managing Partner and Chief Operating Officer, providing hands-on support to portfolio companies in operations, investment-process management, and business development — the "value-add" side of the firm's model rather than deal sourcing alone.

His career began in 1999 as a consultant at Mel Consulting Limited, where he delivered business-development and financial-management solutions to SME clients. In 2000 he served briefly as Finance Manager of ENO International before joining the Massilly Group, a French metal-packaging conglomerate, as Finance Manager. He rose through the ranks at Massilly to become Managing Director of its Ghana operations from January 2005 to March 2013, when he left to join Oasis Capital as a Partner in April 2013.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Ghana and an MBA from Wisconsin International University (Ghana). He is fluent in English and French — a useful asset given Oasis Capital's active investing in Francophone Côte d'Ivoire.

Oasis Capital Ghana itself was founded in February 2009 and has built out a series of funds: the ~US$11–13 million Ebankese Venture Fund (EVF) focused on Ghanaian SMEs, the US$50.5 million Oasis Africa VC Fund (Fund I) covering Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, and, more recently, the US$100 million-target Oasis Africa Fund II. Across its vehicles the firm has deployed capital into roughly 21 businesses and recorded eight exits.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Backs scalable West African SMEs — companies with sales/assets under ~US$10m and up to ~250 employees — providing risk capital as equity, quasi-equity, and profit-sharing facilities.
  • Concentrates on five-to-six defensive, growth-driven sectors: education, healthcare, financial services, housing/real estate, hospitality, and food services.
  • Writes checks of roughly US$500k–US$5m, spanning early-stage through growth/expansion rounds in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire.
  • Pairs money with operational value creation — Boakye-Yiadom's own remit is "Operations, Investment Process management and business development services to Investee Companies," reflecting a hands-on, post-investment support model.
  • Fund II adds an explicit gender-lens mandate: per CEO Matthew Boadu Adjei, "This commitment extends to a focus on gender lens investing, actively seeking opportunities to promote gender equality and empower women-led businesses."

Notable Investments

  • Mansa Bank (Côte d'Ivoire) — Ivorian commercial bank; Oasis invested Oct 2021, held ~16.12% as second-largest shareholder, and fully exited in 2025 after ~four years.
  • Metropolitan Health Insurance Ghana — health-insurance business; Oasis exited its stake in September 2025.
  • Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design (JACCD) — Ghanaian creative-design tertiary college; equity investment announced in 2021 (education sector).
  • Legacy Girls' College — Ghanaian girls' school; a legacy education holding that Oasis has since exited.
  • SINEL Specialist Hospital and PISAM Hospital (Côte d'Ivoire) — healthcare/hospital investments.
  • Everpure Ghana (water) — consumer/food-and-beverage sector holding.
  • Rising Sun Montessori School and GHS Housing Ltd. — education and housing/real-estate holdings.
