Background

Yvan Vindevogel is a Belgian pharmacist turned serial entrepreneur and investor, based in Kortrijk. In 1987 he co-founded Omega Pharma with Marc Coucke — the two had studied pharmacy together at Ghent University. Their first product was a shampoo sold in 5-litre bottles to pharmacists, who added their own scent and colour to sell it as a house brand. Omega Pharma grew into a European consumer-healthcare giant; Vindevogel sold his shares to Coucke in 1994, and Omega was ultimately acquired by Perrigo for about €3.6 billion (deal completed March 2015).

After exiting Omega, Vindevogel kept building consumer-health platforms. He founded Vemedia Pharma (which became Cooper Consumer Health), Alpha Pharma (now Fagron), and in 2017 Vision Healthcare, which he grew through roughly ten acquisitions into a European market leader in the online sale of vitamins, food supplements, cosmetics and health products. He continues to chair several of these businesses, serving as Executive Chairman of Vision (Consumer) Health and Chairman of Cooper Consumer Health.

Today his vehicle is Damier Group, the family-led investment company he founded that partners with entrepreneurs to build leading consumer brands and companies across Europe. The family office is closely tied to Kortrijk: it also owns the four-star Hotel Damier, a landmark hotel in the city centre with a listed façade dating to 1769, and previously backed the Copperhead Gin brand (since divested). Vindevogel's sons have followed him into entrepreneurship. Internationally, he has been recognised with a special lifetime achievement award from the global consumer-healthcare sector organisation, presented in London.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in branded consumer markets, with a core focus on consumer healthcare and personal care, extending into beauty, food & beverage, and medical devices.
  • Strategy is to "actively build up platforms in its target branded consumer markets by intertwining companies, brands or distribution platforms" — buy-and-build rather than passive minority checks.
  • Takes both minority and majority stakes, and partners with "world class PE, family offices and VC companies."
  • Targets standalone investments in companies of roughly €5M–€100M turnover, and co-invests in businesses up to ~€2B turnover alongside institutional partners.
  • Brings deep operational expertise from decades of founding and scaling consumer-health companies — Vindevogel positions himself as a hands-on partner with an "intimate knowledge of the consumer healthcare industry," not just a capital provider.
  • Also invests as an LP in growth funds (e.g., KKR, CVC, Providence Equity, Hummingbird), signalling exposure to growth technology/TMT beyond his direct consumer-health platforms.
